MAS’ Action Extending Cabotage Policy To Air–Route

The Sabah Homestay community came in support of the Malaysian Association and Travel Agents (Matta) Sabah’s concerns over the MAS’ action to abandon Kota Kinabalu for the second time in recent times as its eastern hub for northeast Asia according to Rubbin Guribah, Coordinator of the Melangkap Homestay.

MAS’ action will seriously damage the Sabah homestay and tourism industry and affect the economic viability of many small and medium homestay operators.
It will reduce the number of tourist arrivals in Sabah and it will definitely hurt the Sabah tourism industry and hurt the homestay operators who rely the tourists arrivals.

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 30, 2011: THE cancellation of MAS direct flights from Japan, Korea and Australia is the latest manifestation of the "KL-centric" decision-making process in our nation today.

"Everything must refer to KL. Now even tourists coming to Sabah must fly an extra five hours via Kuala Lumpur instead of coming direct to Sabah. This is a most disgusting and damaging consequence of the subservience of Sabah to KL. This must change and the Sabah State Government, which labels itself as the fixed deposit of the ruling BN, has failed in its duty to protect and promote the Sabah tourism industry".

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin joined in the inter-carriers share swap fray by scoffing at Idris Jala’s track record during his tenure as Malaysian Airlines Bhd (MAS) boss.

The Rembau MP suggested in his Twitter posting that the minister in charge of Putrajaya’s Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) had not done a good job at MAS.

KUALA LUMPUR: Fast-growing budget airline AirAsia will acquire 20.5% of ailing flag carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in a share swap that will see the fierce rivals join forces, the carriers said today.

The deal also gives Malaysia-based AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes – who took over the no-frills carrier and turned into one of the industry’s biggest success stories – a voice in turning around loss-making MAS.
