Dirtiest election to come: Sex scandals will entertain Malaysians

Controversial businessman Deepak Jaikishan has turned the heat on Prime Minister Najib Razak. Stripping off the gloves, the 40-year-old former confidante of Najib's wife Rosmah Mansor has just unleashed a fresh barrage of allegations that could submerge the political fortunes of the Malaysian PM and his Umno party.

Flora Ong is now the name on the lips of many followers of the Altantuya Shaaribuu-Scorpene submarines saga, even though she is not directly linked to the murder and corruption case that Deepak has accused the first couple of having a hand in.

Scorpene probe not a serious matter, says Anifah

azlanThe probe by French prosecutors into the alleged corruption over the purchase of the two Scorpene submarines is not a serious issue that Malaysia should now focus on, said Foreign Minister Anifah Aman.

“This is not a serious matter that we need to follow, and it is being played up by certain parties,” he told reporters after attending a luncheon with representatives of Asean nations in Kuala Lumpur today.
He was asked about Malaysia’s preparations to face the case currently being investigated in Paris.

Anifah said that Malaysia will make the necessary preparations to face the trial when they are needed.

“So far we have not received any information from the (French) embassy. But if necessary, we are ready to defend ourselves,” Anifah added.
Local human rights NGO Suaram had filed a suit over alleged kickbacks from French defence contractor DCNS to Malaysian parties in the two submarine purchases.

Najib sought US$1bil for Perimekar - Malaysiakini

French public prosecutors probing shoddy deals in French-Malaysian arms deals found evidence that then-defence minister Najib Abdul Razak had sought US$1 billion (RM3 billion) for local company Perimekar from French shipmaker DCN's subsidiary DCNI.

According to prosecution papers revealed by NGO Suaram today, a fax shows that Najib had asked for the amount for Perimekar as a condition for a meeting with him on July 14, 2001.

Mindef says RM493.3m additional budget necessary to ‘maintain’ Scorpene subs

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — The Defence Ministry received an additional RM493.3 million allocation this year, and said today the amount was needed to maintain the country’s two Scorpene submarines.

Time for Change

We have had 54 years of UMNO-N rule and have things really gotten any better? The rich appear to get richer, whilst the numbers who make up the poor, are increasing. The old class system was royalty versus the serfs. Then it was the colonialists against the Malayans. Now it looks like it is the Umnoputras versus the rest.

The Umnoputras are the new elite. Even royalty depends on the largesse of those who lead UMNO-BN to get funding from the civil list. When it suits them, BN will use emotional blackmail on the Malays to say that their heartland and their birthright is being threatened.

Scorpene scandal: ‘Truth to surface soon’

The Frenchman said he would then have smooth access to scrutinise all documents and interview major witnesses pertaining to the submarine deal between Malaysia and France.
