Sabah Govt Needs to be Assertive in SESB

Kota Kinabalu:    “The Sabahgovernment needs to act as the government of the people in Sabah and be assertive in SESB.   As shown in the aftermath of the state-wide fiasco affecting 511,611 consumers, the government cannot and should no longer play a passive role on its 20% shareholding in SESB” said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, STAR Sabah Chief in response to SESB’s excuse for the blackout and refusal to compensate the Sabah and Labuan consumers.

TNB deal in Sabah raises eyebrows

Why is Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd paying a TNB subsidiary
RM18 million annually for routine services when it can
do the job itself?
TAWAU: The yearly payment of RM18 million to a subsidiary of national utility company Tenaga National Bhd for routine services of a power station in Sabah has come under the spotlight.
Sabah DAP chairman Jimmy Wong said state utility company, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, which is itself a subsidiary of TNB, must explain the rationale for the multi-million ringgit bill for maintenance checks by TNB Remaco on the Kubota Power Plant at Taman Millennium.
Wong said SESB should be able to handle the routine task without having to engage TNB Remaco for the job as has been done in the past.
“The RM18 million is only used to conduct routine operation and service. Any major breakdown is still paid by SESB.

Sabah people stand to lose with increased tariff

The electricity tariff hike 'Sabah may lose out investors to S'wak'

INANAM: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said the excuse that Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) continued to incur losses so as to justify increasing the State's electricity tariff cannot be accepted because the company had made a profit in 2006.

Its Deputy President Datuk Eric Majimbun said this was based on the SESB audited accounts showing it registered a net profit of RM126 million as at Aug. 31, 2006, which was a turnaround for the company.

SESB New Tariff effective 15 July 2011

We write to record our objection to the SESB new tariff effective 15 July 2011 which, according to some calculations, is 15% to 24%. You claimed that the new tariff will not affect the majority of the people. In fact, the new tariff will impact on every person, some directly as consumers and some indirectly when the costs of living and costs of economic production shoot up.
