SURPRISED AND DISAPPOINTED

Dompok: UPKO lawmakers will insist that the Bill be withdrawn
Bernard Dompok: The present Bill appears to contravene the Federal Constitution and runs counter to the Government’s transformation plans
By Alexander Chen
PENAMPANG: The Administration of the Religion of Islam (Federal Territories) Bill 2013 which was tabled in Parliament last Wednesday has drawn the ire of former UPKO lawmaker, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.
“I am surprised and disappointed that this Bill has been approved by Cabinet for tabling at Parliament,” he said in a brief statement to the Borneo Insider Saturday.
He added: “The present Bill appears to contravene the Federal Constitution and runs counter to the Government’s transformation plans especially the 1Malaysia concept of acceptance, inclusiveness and moderation.”
Dompok, the Upko President and former Penampang MP said he had actually asked for the withdrawal of a paper on this Bill from

God, as opposed to religion

Okay, back to the issue of Prophet Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha when she was said to be just 6 years old or 9 years old or whatever. Of the many stories in Islam this appears to be the single most-favourite story that non-Muslims will raise to mock the Prophet and call him a paedophile, child rapist, pervert, criminal who would be sent to jail if he did that today, and so on.

God and religion, two separate matters

The raging ‘Allah” issue has left this writer
wondering if Jakim and National Fatwah Council
clerics who can both “see and read” are “blind”.
When I was young, my teacher  told me that if I want to study facts I should take up archaeology, but if I want to find out what truth is all about I should choose philosophy.
I ended up somewhere in the middle and discovered that between scientific evidence and logic, there are matters that require a 3rd element called faith -  to believe and accept in the absence of  facts and figures. And religion is one such matter.
Let me give an example: Many people will ref use to switch-off  the life supporting machine attached to a loved one who is in a comatose even though their religion tells them that there is a better place on the other side.

Who Created God?

If something comes into being, it must have been prompted by something else. A book has an author. Music has a music artist. A party has a party-thrower! All things that begin, that have a start, have a cause to their beginning.

Consider the universe. Scientists once held to the "steady-state" theory, that the universe has always existed without beginning.

Cosmological evidence now refers to the "Big bang" as the point in time that the universe came into being. Our space-time-matter-energy universe had a distinct and singular beginning.

Was There Ever Nothing?

A thought journey on the
beginning of time and
the origin of the universe
Have you ever thought about the beginning? What is that, you say? You know -- whatever it was that showed up first. Or whatever it was that was here first, at the earliest moment in time. Have you ever strained your brain to think about that?

Wait a minute, you say, isn't it possible that in the beginning there was nothing? Isn't it possible that kazillions of years ago, there wasn't anything at all? That's certainly a theory to consider. So let's consider it -- but first by way of analogy.

Let's say you have a large room. It's fully enclosed and is about the size of a football field. The room is locked, permanently, and has no doors or windows, and no holes in its walls.

Interesting Facts About Religions

The facts about religions, whether you are a believer or not that is a secondary matter, the following facts have some sensible things, which all literate persons must admit. Please read with an open mind.  I mean no disrespect to any particular religion.

‘Christian threat’ seminar in Johor sparks religious row

By Anisah Shukry
KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 – Religious teachers from national schools in Johor will attend an officially-sanctioned seminar this Saturday focussing on the “threat of Christianisation”, and this has sparked outrage among Christians.

Organised by the Johor Education Department and the Johor Mufti Department, the seminar with the theme “Pemantapan Aqidah, Bahaya Liberalisme dan Pluralism Serta Ancaman Kristianisasi Terhadap Umat Islam. Apa Peranan Guru?” (Strengthening the Faith, the Dangers of Liberalism and Pluralism and the Threat of Christianity towards Muslims. What is the Role of Teachers?) requires the attendance of two religious teachers from 55 national schools across Johor.
