Water remain a big issue on World Habitat Day in Sabah

By Ezra Haganez

KOTA BELUD : Supply of treated piped water remains one of the biggest issues faced by many Sabahans, 50 years after it freed itself from the clutches of British colonialism and enjoyed "prosperity" within a federation of states called Malaysia.

World Habitat Day at Kg Sumbilingon, Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD : A local NGO, Gindol Initiative for Civil Society Borneo, will host a simple World Habitat Day gathering at a remote kampung in Sabah this Monday, Oct 7, 2013.

Spokesman of the NGO, Kanul Gindol, said the half-an hour observation of the world-wide United Nations' sanctioned day would start at 4pm beneath an old durian tree in the Dusun kampung near here.

"We have invited local leaders like our assemblyman Jeremmy Ukoh Malajad and Sabah's human right and consumer activist Patrick Sindu to deliver relevant messages on that day.

Sultanate of Sulu: Pawn or legacy?

Malaysia has responded with troops and fighter jets to an ancient and deadly claim to a remote corner of Borneo. It marked a dramatic conclusion to a bizarre three-week siege that appeared to catch the governments of the Philippines and Malaysia off guard.

"Part of the reason [for the lack of information] is that they [the Filipinos] do not want any information to leak out. As you know the Filipinos are relaying reports of what is happening on the ground to television stations in Manila, so I think they are trying to keep a tactical advantage by keeping quiet."
- James Chinn, Monash University
A group of Filipino rebels pitched up in a seaside village on the island of Borneo, and asserted their ancestral ownership rights to the territory.

The self-proclaimed Royal Army of Sulu are from the remote Philippine island province of Sulu. They made the short journey by boat to Borneo Island in February, landing in Lahad Datu in Sabah state.

Brunei, Sulu sultans had no territory to cede to British North Borneo Chartered Company

By Joe Fernandez

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN : It's interesting that your reader Mr Chong Tet Loi should write in the DE Forum on Sunday 3 Feb, 2013 -- "Ancestors of Migrants came via front door" -- that the Brunei and Sulu Sultans ceded territory in Sabah to the British North Borneo Chartered Company and/or its predecessors.

I beg to differ.

The westerners found early on that their idea of territory and land ownership was not as practised by many other cultures especially the Islamic, the Maori and Indians (America).

Claimants to defunct Sulu sultanate have hidden agenda

By Joe Fernandez
The only reason Muslim Sultans in southeast Asia claim to be royals is because they were previously Hindu rajahs. Example: Parameswara in Malacca.

In Islam itself, a Sultan is not royal but was democratically elected by the local ummah to be their spiritual head. These democratic elections in the Middle East were subsequently stopped somewhere along the way and/or partly by western intervention and colonialism which wanted puppet rulers.

Anyone who claims to be the Sultan of Sulu is the Father of All Liars ... Even if any claimant produces a DNA report to trace direct descent as heir to the so-called "throne", the "territorial" claim is sheer nonsense under international law. It's also a distortion of history, the concept of democracy, the rule of law and sovereignty.

Malaya bleeding us dry

By Zainal Ajamain

Putrajaya's version of history has contaminated the minds
of children and stripped Sabahans of their dignity,
says economist and author Zainal Ajamain.
These words “we demand autonomy or Sabah Negeri, Merdeka” must be on the lips and hearts of all true leaders in Sabah.

On both sides of Sabah’s political divide, our leaders have long been incapacitated by their fear of their perceived Malaya masters.

They will not speak out against the daily injustices towards fellow Sabahans. And even when they do speak up it is just passive shouting – a token resistance, just to show they are saying something.

Stop lying about history of Malaysia's Formation- Dr. Jeffrey

By Ezra Haganez
KOTA
KINABALU: The Federal Government should stop lying about the history of Malaysia and restate correctly the facts of history to stop the confusion.

Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, the Chairman of the United Borneo Front (UBF) made this call at a Borneo Tea Party organized by Sikinor Gunu at Kg. Malangang, Kiulu, on 01 September 2011.  “This continuous lying is an affront to the founding fathers of Malaysia and a gross injustice to Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

Malaysia is 48 years old, not 54

‘Malaysia has only existed since 1963. To claim our nation is 54 is to ignore the role Sabah and Sarawak have played in its formation.’

Is Sabah Independence In Malaysia?

By : JOHN STEPHEN DIONYSIUS
AS we went thru our normal life, Sabah is about to celebrate Independence Day on August 31 and will be celebrating a Malaysia Day falls on September 16 and the question now where does Sabah go from here.

As a Malaysian youth in Sabah, I am very much obliged to share and would like to bring the people of Sabah back to an early days of Malaysia and ask whether Sabah is really a true Independence state in Malaysia after been 48 years since the colonization from the British.

I would like to give a scenario here:
People had asked me whether Sabah JOINED or FORMED Malaysia? I told them that there will be no Malaysia without the inclusion of Sabah and Sarawak. Does Malaysia exist on 31st August 1957? The answer is NO. Malaysia only exists on the 16th September 1963 when Sabah and Sarawak together with Malaya to form MALAYSIA.

‘It’s for the future generations of Sabahans’

A former policeman who filed a summons against the federal and
state governments over his 'lost' rights, explains his decision.
KOTA KINABALU: In an unprecedented move, a 70-year-old Sabahan filed a summons against the federal and state governments on Monday for failure to implement the Borneonisation of the federal public service in the state, thus depriving Sabahans of job opportunities for over 47 years.

Bernard Fung Fon Chen, a former policeman, sees himself a victim. He was born in Sabah at a time when Sabah was a British Colony called North Borneo.
