Johor Catholic priest detained, 30 hymn books with ‘Allah’ seized

Barely has the dust settled on the issue of the seized Bibles in Selangor, a Catholic priest in Muar, Johor, was detained for having 30 copies of a hymn book with the word Allah which were meant for his Orang Asli parishioners.
Father Cyril Mannayagam (pic), 44, said although the police later decided not to pursue the case against him, the hymn books, titled "Kepujian Kepada Tuhan Allah" (Praise be to God) were seized and had yet to be returned to him.

Sabahans seek Judicial Review on Herald seizure

KOTA KINABALU : Two Church-going Sabahans, both Roman Catholics, on Fri filed an ex-parte Application for Leave at the High Court in Kota Kinabalu to file a Judicial Review to obtain an Order of Certiorari (squash) against the decision of a Malaysian Government agency/agencies to seize 2,000 copies of the Herald, a Church weekly, on Sat 26 Oct last year at Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

The Application was filed under Order 53 Rule 3(2) of the Rules of the High Court 2012 by activist Daniel John Jambun, one of the Applicants, Acting in Person.

Bishops expose ploy to convert under-aged students to Islam (Part 1)

In Part 1, the Catholic Church in Sabah has exposed a covert ploy to convert under-aged students to Islam in Labuan and complained that non-Muslim students at the Labuan Matriculation College between 17 and 18 years old, “are constantly subjected to various forms of harassment, ridicule and pressure to change their religion.”

What the bishops found out shocked them. Some teachers there were proselytising Christian students resulting in some converting to Islam. The called for full probe after which a strongly worded letter jointly signed by the four Catholic bishops of Sabah together with a report prepared by the Sabah Catholic Diocesan Centre was despatched to the highest levels with copies to Education Minister Muyhiddin Yasin, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister as well as two Sabahan Christian ministers, Bernard Dompok and Dr Maximus Ongkili, as well as to Murphy Pakiam, President of the Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia.
