Sultanate of Sulu: Pawn or legacy?

Malaysia has responded with troops and fighter jets to an ancient and deadly claim to a remote corner of Borneo. It marked a dramatic conclusion to a bizarre three-week siege that appeared to catch the governments of the Philippines and Malaysia off guard.

"Part of the reason [for the lack of information] is that they [the Filipinos] do not want any information to leak out. As you know the Filipinos are relaying reports of what is happening on the ground to television stations in Manila, so I think they are trying to keep a tactical advantage by keeping quiet."
- James Chinn, Monash University
A group of Filipino rebels pitched up in a seaside village on the island of Borneo, and asserted their ancestral ownership rights to the territory.

The self-proclaimed Royal Army of Sulu are from the remote Philippine island province of Sulu. They made the short journey by boat to Borneo Island in February, landing in Lahad Datu in Sabah state.

Our Police In Action: Only in Malaysia

NOTE the police could easily spot & stopped ONE boat with 3 Al Jazeera journalists sailing to Lahad Datu Sabah but not a FLOTILLA with over 300 (?)  armed men heading in the same direction- they apparently slipped in under their radar!

Also the UMNO Gov't had not problems to deport an unarmed Aussie politician who was a "security threat" and helpless in handling the real security threat by the armed men.

When hundreds of armed foreigners "invaded" Sabah, our Police and Armed Forces pussy footed. Give water, hold negotiations, and even gentlemanly pleaded them to leave peacefully. Our Police treated them like VIPs.

Unarmed Bersih and Hindraf protesters (only armed with salt and water bottles ) are tear gassed and shot with chemically laced water cannons and some even attacked indiscriminately by dozens of policemen injuring dozens.

Hishammuddin humiliated by own IGP

This is the SOP of police…,Hishammuddin Hussein
KUALA LUMPUR: The Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar today said that the police do not have a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) allowing them to seize media equipment including cameras or memory cards.

“There is no such thing, we act in accordance with the law,” said Ismail, stressing that the police acted professionally during the Bersih 3.0 on Saturday.

Ismail’s statement contradicted with what his boss, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, said yesterday.
