An AirAsia flight bound for northeast Thailand turned back to the capital Bangkok shortly after takeoff today when pilots detected an "irregularity" in the storage compartment, airline officials said.

MAS-Air Asia monopoly, State Govt has duty to save tourism industry

Everything must refer to KL. Now even tourists coming
to Sabah must fly an extra five hours via Kuala Lumpur
instead of coming direct to Sabah. This is a most
disgusting and damaging consequence of the
subservience of Sabah to KL
By Datuk Yong Teck Lee

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 30, 2011: THE cancellation of MAS direct flights from Japan, Korea and Australia is the latest manifestation of the "KL-centric" decision-making process in our nation today.

"Everything must refer to KL. Now even tourists coming to Sabah must fly an extra five hours via Kuala Lumpur instead of coming direct to Sabah. This is a most disgusting and damaging consequence of the subservience of Sabah to KL. This must change and the Sabah State Government, which labels itself as the fixed deposit of the ruling BN, has failed in its duty to protect and promote the Sabah tourism industry".

AirAsia-MAS link: A coup for brash Fernandes

AirAsia will acquire a 20.5% stake in ailing
MAS under a share swap deal.
KUALA LUMPUR: Fast-growing budget airline AirAsia will acquire 20.5% of ailing flag carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in a share swap that will see the fierce rivals join forces, the carriers said today.

The deal also gives Malaysia-based AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes – who took over the no-frills carrier and turned into one of the industry’s biggest success stories – a voice in turning around loss-making MAS.

AirAsia Moves Corporate HQ from KL to Jakarta

With all the troubles he has had over the last two months, the confirmation Friday that AirAsia, arguably Malaysia’s most vibrant private company, is moving its headquarters out of the country to Indonesia is one more blow.

Tony Fernandes, AirAsia’s group chief executive, confirmed the decision in Tokyo Thursday, saying the move is an effort to upgrade his company’s image as a regional Southeast Asian airline rather than just a Malaysian carrier.
