Adenan: Immigration ban to protect state from unsavoury elements

KUCHING: The Sarawak government will not lift its immigration ban on opposition leaders and activists in the interest of the state.

Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem (pic) said he needs to protect the interest of Sarawak.

"I have to protect the interest of Sarawak from unsavoury elements. Political or otherwise, it is my job as chief minister," he told reporters at his office here on Tuesday.

Dalam satu pertemuan dan taklimat tertutup di Kuching, Khamis lepas, Adenan Satem menyatakan tidak puas hatinya terhadap pegawai-pegawai penguatkuasa imigresen negeri itu.

Sebuah klip video yang dirakamkan menggunakan kamera telefon dan dirakamkan oleh seorang pegawai dari jabatan tersebut ketika dia dan 20 orang pegawai daripada 20 agensi yang lain - dari negeri dan persekutuan - telah diminta hadir ke bilik operasi negeri di Wisma Bapa Malaysia di Petra Jaya.

Federal government cancels controversial column that classifies Sarawak Bumiputera as ‘others’ in race section of official forms

KAPIT: There will be no more ‘lain-lain’ column in the race section of government forms to indicate the race of Bumiputera in Sarawak.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said yesterday the federal government had acceded to a request by the state government to eliminate the words ‘lain-lain’ in the race column in official forms.

“In government forms, there will be Bumiputera Iban, Bumiputera Bidayuh and Bumiputera Orang Ulu.

KUCHING, Feb 12 — Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud today announced that he will be stepping down as chief minister effective February 28 and would be succeeded by Special Functions Minister at the Chief Minister’s Office and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He said he handed over his resignation letter to Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng today.
