Of US President Harry Truman and Australian Bob Menzies

Thought you'd enjoy this!
It's one you want your Children and Grandchildren to read.
They won't believe this happened, but it DID.
Harry & Bess
(This seems unreal.)
Harry Truman was a different kind of President. He probably made as many, or more important decisions regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 Presidents preceding him. However, a measure of his greatness may rest on what he did after he left the White House.
The only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in Independence Missouri. His wife had inherited the house from her mother and father and other than their years in the White House, they lived their entire lives there.

When he retired from office in 1952 his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an 'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.

After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There was no Secret Service following them.

When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to the American people and it's not for sale."

Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, "I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise."

As president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food.

Modern politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their offices. Political offices are now for sale (cf. Illinois).

Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, "My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference!

I say dig him up and clone him!

If you agree, forward it. If you don't, delete it. I don't want to know one way or the other. By me forwarding it, you know how I feel.

Enjoy life now -- it has an expiration date!

PS.. It's interesting to note that Australia's longest serving Prime Minister, Bob Menzies,
Could not afford to buy a house when he retired and some wealthy friends in Melbourne donated one to him where he lived until he died.

  1. PITY WE HAVE LEADERS WHO ARE SO CORRUPT & CAN ONLY THINK OF THEMSELVES!

Leading the pack is Dr. M on the world's number ONE list of where did they get the money (??) with stolen $44 BILLION mostly from Sabah and Sarawak.

And his companies are still sucking out our off shore wealth not to mention projects his companies were connected with in plundering Sabah Sarawak such as in the Bakun Dam and other multi-million "development" projects.

Second is probably Taib Mahmud with reported $15 BILLION- not hard to track down as he left tracks from the jungle to the western bank accounts.....

Neither of them have strenuously denied the accusations or sued any one ...

Check this list of net worth of world leaders on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_heads_of_state_and_government_by_net_worth

Mahathir ranked second after ex-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak first on the list of former heads of state and government.

Mahathirs' name was mysteriously removed...from the list

List of heads of state and government by net worth -

Hosni Mubarak President of Egypt 1981–2011 Net Worth
$40–$70 billion (Overthrown by people uprising- but where are the billions?)

Mahathir Mohamad Prime minister of 1981–2003 $44 billion Malaysia (unlikely to be brought to justice as cronies in power nor will PKR do anything. PKR does not have prosecution of these crooks on its agenda)

Suharto President of 1967–1998 $15–$35 billion Indonesia (escaoe justice by dying- would not have been prosecuted as former cronies in power)

Ferdinand Marcos President of 1965–1986 $13–$35 billion Philippines (Dead. Philippines Gov't stills struggling to get back the billions).

Ibrahim Babangida President of Nigeria 1985–1993 $12 billion Nigeria (?)

Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali President of Tunisia 1987–2011 $7.8 billion Tunisia (Overthrown by people uprising- but where are the billions?)
